Today, I filed the ‘Compassionate Care Act’ aimed at addressing the complete and total abortion ban currently in place in Kentucky since the overturning of Roe v. Wade. This bill reflects the voices and concerns of the thousands of voters I’ve spoken with across the 45th district. It is time for us to come together as a state to find solutions that reflect both compassion and common sense.

While I strongly disagree with the existing ban for many reasons, its failure to provide options for survivors of rape and incest, as well as for those carrying nonviable pregnancies, is nothing short of cruel. No one should be forced to endure such suffering. HB 759 allows for legal abortion care in cases of medical emergencies, medical necessity, and nonviable pregnancies. It also gives rape and incest survivors the right to make a decision up to the point of viability. These changes are rooted in compassion and acknowledge the complex, deeply personal medical decisions that Kentuckians currently face.

At its core, this is about ensuring that profoundly private, often heart-wrenching medical decisions are made between a woman and her doctor—not by politicians in Frankfort.   This is a conversation about empathy, humanity, and respect for individual liberty. It is time to take a step forward and pass a law that reflects the values and needs of the people in our state.

Meaningful solutions that respect life, freedom, and dignity are within our reach. I encourage all Kentuckians and my colleagues to join me as we work together for a better, more compassionate future.
