Grassroots activist groups Indivisible NKY and KFTC-NKY will hold a People’s Town Hall: Democracy Over Dollars rally outside a Tea Party fundraiser, to call attention to the fact that “our elected leaders seem willing to meet only with those who agree with them and those who pay to see them.”
Senator Rand Paul, Congressman Thomas Massie, and Governor Matt Bevin are all attending the “Champions of Liberty” fundraiser on Friday, August 11, sponsored by the Northern Kentucky chapter of the Tea Party. The fundraiser costs $500 per person, and is followed by a rally that costs $25 per person. The counter-rally is to highlight the fact that citizens across the state have been asking for open town halls, accessible to everyone, only to be rebuffed by these Republican office-holders. In fact, not only have there been no town halls, but Senator Paul has closed all but one of his state offices, thus making it even harder for citizens to have their voices heard.
Following this action, Indivisible NKY will deliver a petition to Congressman Massie’s office, requesting a town hall. The petition currently has over 700 signatures.
The counter-rally will be Friday, August 11th, from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Marriott Hotel outside the Cinncinnati Airport, located at 2395 Progress Drive, Hebron, KY 41048. For more information, visit the Facebook event page.
