Sen. Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon, will no longer be president pro tem when the Kentucky Senate reconvenes in January.
In a written statement Friday, Higdon, who was just re-elected to a third full term, said he decided not to seek the position out of deference to Sen. David Givens, R-Greensburg.
“Last session, when Sen. David Givens lost his wife to cancer, I stepped up to serve his remaining term as pro tem so he could focus on his family,” Higdon explained. “After a year of healing, Sen. Givens has told me that he plans to seek to return to that position. Out of my respect for him, I have decided to step aside.”
