‘Mr. Mayor, do you have time to talk to the President?’

A president doing what a president should do ... and which our president actually does

Twitter thread from the mayor of Gainesville, Florida:

This morning I got a call from a 202 area code number I didn’t recognize, but I answered anyway. The person on the other end said, “Mayor Ward, I’m calling from President Biden’s office, do you have time to talk to the president?” 1/

Ummm … YES, I had time to talk to the President of the United States. “Mr. Mayor, I’m just calling to check on you.,” he said. The president was doing exactly what I’d been doing, and exactly what I’d been asking everyone else to do. 2/

He asked how Gainesville is doing after the storms, how YOU are doing. How I’M doing. He wanted to be sure we have all the resources we need from the federal government. We talked for a minute or two more, and both went on with the business of checking on our people. 3/

At least four other folks from the White House and Vice President Harris’ office have called before and now after both storms to be sure we - you - have what is necessary. We should feel completely supported by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. 4/

To my knowledge our Governor’s office has not called before or after any storm.

Check on your people. It matters. 5/5
