Bruce Maples Bio

I have always followed politics closely, as my father was a journalist who wrote about local government and the courts. It was not until the early 2000’s, though, that I did more than read and vote.

I became interested in the Howard Dean campaign in 2004, making my first political donation and attending my first campaign meeting, a Dean Meetup in Louisville. Once John Kerry became the nominee, I became active in the Kerry Kentucky movement. After Kerry lost, a number of the Kerry Kentucky people became active in the Metro Democratic Club, and I was one of them. I wound up serving as the VP of the club, then the President, then the Treasurer. I have also served on the Democratic Party Executive Committee in Louisville.

I began blogging in 2004, and currently operate two personal blogs (BruceMaples.com and brucewriter.com). I founded Forward Kentucky in the wake of the state elections in 2015, because I was so frustrated at the lack of a strong progressive voice in that campaign and the ones before it.

I have lived in Louisville since 1992 with my wife and two sons, and absolutely love this city. I retired from a local company in order to work on Forward Kentucky full-time. Just to be clear: Everything I write and say on Forward Kentucky and my other channels and sites is mine and mine alone, and is not the fault of my wife, my family, my friends, my church, or anyone else. So don’t blame them! <g>
