This month’s Voice of the Commonwealth survey was all about telling the future – the future of the upcoming elections, that is. We asked our members to weigh in with their predictions for November, both nationally and in Kentucky.

Below are the pie charts of the answers, along with select comments from each question. Let’s get started!

How will the presidential election go?

Wow, really strong sentiment that Harris is going to go the distance! And a strong vote for the Repubs doing something to mess with the electoral vote.

Comments

  • Actually I would say Harris wins popular and electoral AND Repubs try to mess up the vote
  • I expect Harris to win by a fairly large margin - picking up some unexpected states.
  • There will be Republican interference on some level.
  • The corrupt Speaker of the House does not certify the election
  • I believe Republicans have had their fill of Trump's lies. They will remain quiet & speak their minds with their vote. It will be a landslide for Harris.
  • I am waiting until they get rid of the electoral college and instigate public financing of elections!

How many points will Trump win Kentucky by?

Overall, over 80% believe Trump will win Kentucky, but by a smaller margin than in the past. (And even though I think they are way wrong, I love that almost 8% believe Harris will win Kentucky!)

What will happen in the chambers of the U.S. Congress, where Repubs currently hold the House and Dems hold the Senate?

This is one of those where I hope, hope, hope that the 52% are right, and the Dems take both chambers. But I suspect one of the other choices is more realistic.

Will Amendment 2 pass or fail, and by how much?

Over 94% believe Amendment 2 will fail, with about 29% saying it will fail by greater than 10 points. Let’s hope they’re right!

Comments

  • Another money and power grab that needs to be defeated for the sake of the our children and their education
  • It would return public education K-12 to pre-KERA pitifulness
  • Will pass in Jefferson, Fayette, Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties; will fail in remaining 115 counties
  • People will be too confused to realize what they are actually voting for.
  • Not part of the “tribe” concept, so it will fail. It’s a Policy, not a Slogan.

What will happen in the KY House, where Repubs currently hold an 80-20 advantage?

I think most pundits and analysts agree with the 44% that say Dems will flip between 1 and 5 seats. Would love to see more, but not sure it’s possible.

Any final comments?

  • I am optimistic that women will turn out to ensure that Kamala Harris beats Trump soundly.
  • We need to educate Kentucky voters
  • Dem party in Kentucky is broken and has lost its way
  • The Dems are working hard to elect legislative candidates and target winnable races. Progress will be slow, but they on the right track.
  • God, please save us from Trump!

A big thanks to all who took part! Watch for the next VOTC in early November, probably right after the dust has settled from the election. And get your friends to sign up for a free membership so they can vote in the next VOTC!
