When Elon Musk bought Twitter, many of us knew that one of the social media channels we relied on was going to be degraded, and perhaps eventually useless. And that’s what is happening.
As a result, the search for “the next Twitter” began. And we here at ForwardKY have been a part of it. So, I want to share a little about where we stand as of today.
Here are the social media channels ForwardKY is on:
- Linked In
- Mastodon
- Spoutible
- Post.News
- Counter Social
- Threads
- Tribel
- Blue Sky (applied)
As of right now, we are planning on staying on the first four (although Instagram is something of a question mark). The others are still relatively experimental.
With all the stories we post, automated posting to social media is really necessary. We have one service that automatically schedules posts to Facebook and Twitter, and to Linked In and Instagram if tell it to. We have another service that posts to Mastodon.
All the rest require manual posting, as they have no integration with any of the social media tools out there, nor do they have any sort of web hook we could hit with Zapier (which is how we post to Mastodon).
Threads (connected to Instagram) got a lot of buzz when it first launched, but the number of active users has dropped precipitously. All the others are in the “also ran” category at this point.
So for a while, I’m going to try posting to all of them, just to see what sort of response we get. I am hopeful, also, that at some point one of the scheduling services will pick one or more of the “also ran” channels.
