We’ve reported in the past about the son of a well-known Kentucky judge who ran for Congress a few years ago and won. And now that same son is running for Governor!

Joe Cunningham, son of retired KY Supreme Court justice Bill Cunningham, won that race for Congress in 2018, flipping that seat from red to blue. Now he is the Democratic candidate for governor of South Carolina, running against the incumbent, Henry McMaster.

In a fund-raising email, Cunningham shares this startling fact: “Our Governor and my opponent, Henry McMaster, has been in politics longer than I’ve been alive. Literally.

“And where has it gotten us? South Carolina is near the bottom when it comes to schools and teacher pay, we’re dead last in roads, and crime is the highest it’s ever been. If Governor McMaster was a coach in the SEC, he’d have been fired a long time ago.

“So here’s my point…the folks who are making a career out of politics, like Henry McMaster and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine are making a mess out of our country.

“Bottom line… our leaders have become too extreme. Commonsense seems to be a stranger in government these days. If we want new ideas, we need new leadership.

“Our campaign is not a contest between Democrats and Republicans or left versus right.

“It’s about the past versus the future.”
