In the special election to fill the vacant seat caused by the death of Rep. Lamin Swann, Democrat Adrielle Camuel won easily.

House District 93 is usually a strong Democratic district, and it followed that pattern this year, electing Camuel over the Republican Kyle Whalen by over 15 points, 57.6% to 42.4%.

The leaders of the House Democratic Caucus — Derrick Graham, Cherlynn Stevenson, and Rachel Roberts — issued this statement after the race was called for Camuel:

“We are proud to welcome Adrielle as our newest caucus member and know she will serve the 93rd House District and the entire commonwealth with distinction.  Her fierce commitment to public education, social justice and the needs of working Kentuckians make her an ideal fit to complete the term of our beloved colleague, Lamin Swann, whose passing in May devastated all of us.  There is no doubt that Adrielle will build on his considerable legacy and, in turn, create her own.”

And KY Democratic Party chair Coleman Elridge issued this statement:

“Adrielle Camuel won tonight because she is committed to making our Commonwealth a better place to live for all Kentuckians. She is a fierce advocate for public education, expanding access to healthcare, and making sure every Kentuckian has the right to live a fulfilling and dignified life. I am happy to see such a dedicated advocate fill the big shoes left by the tragic loss of my dear friend Representative Lamin Swann. While there is no replacing him, Representative-Elect Camuel will carry the fight forward.”
