Kyle Whalen, a Republican small business owner, will face Democrat newcomer Adrielle Camuel in the special election to replace Rep. Lamin Swann, who died unexpectedly earlier this year. Whalen ran for the seat and lost to Swann by eight percentage points in 2022. House District 93 includes the south side of Fayette County and is a newly formed House district. It is considered a Democratic strong hold, with President Joe Biden winning the area by about 17 points over former President Donald Trump. Lawmakers push for a plan to keep Kentucky foster children from sleeping on office floors
State lawmakers continue to press child welfare officials about keeping children in Kentucky’s foster care system from sleeping on office floors. In July, a Louisville Courier Journal investigation found that some unplaced children in Kentucky’s foster care system are sleeping on office floors with nowhere else to go. Cabinet officials said this situation began a year ago in smaller rural offices and has only grown. A total of 87 kids, as of July, had to stay in an office or hotel.
Eric Friedlander, secretary of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, said two children are in what he called a “non-traditional placement” as of Wednesday. But lawmakers want a plan to find a good and safe place for every child before the start of the General Assembly session in January. (FOX 56 News)

For months, Dean Phillips has been calling for a Democratic primary challenge to President Joe Biden. He’s drawn no public interest from governors, lawmakers, and other would-be alternatives. The 54-year-old Minnesota congressman is finally entering the race himself, telling a Friday event outside New Hampshire’s statehouse, “I am today announcing my candidacy for the presidency of the United States of America.”
Phillips, one of Congress' wealthiest members, has been effusive in his praise for Biden but also says their party needs younger voices to avoid a nightmare scenario where Donald Trump is reelected next fall. (WHAS)
