One of the concessions Kevin McCarthy had to make to become Speaker of the House was to put member of the so-called “Freedom Caucus” into positions of power within the House. The Rules Committee is one of the most powerful committees in that institution, because it is the committee that decides what bills actually make it to the House floor for a vote.

And now that concession to the far right may come back to bite McCarthy. It’s all up to Kentucky’s own Thomas Massie.
