Three headlines show spin of some news sites

Do you know if your news and information sources are objective? Or, do they lean left or right?

I subscribe to a number of news outlets. Some are pretty objective and centrist, while others lean left or right, either a little or a lot. I know which ones are which, so I take that into account when reading their content.

This morning, I was fascinated to see this in action, as multiple sites reported the same story, but with vastly different headlines.

Here are the headlines and an excerpt from the story on each site.

The basic story from the NY Times

Biden to Give Legal Protections to Undocumented Spouses of U.S. Citizens
Undocumented spouses of American citizens will be shielded from deportation, provided work permits and given a pathway to citizenship, according to officials briefed on the plan.

The story from left-leaning Daily Kos

Half a million immigrants could get US citizenship under a new plan from Biden
President Joe Biden is taking an expansive election year step to offer relief to potentially hundreds of thousands of immigrants without legal status in the U.S., aiming to balance his own aggressive crackdown on the southern border earlier this month that enraged advocates and many Democratic lawmakers. The White House announced Tuesday that the Biden administration will, in the coming months, allow certain spouses of U.S. citizens without legal status to apply for permanent residency and eventually citizenship. The move could affect upwards of half a million immigrants, according to senior administration officials.

And, the same story from the right-leaning Center Square

Biden announces widespread amnesty plan for illegal immigrants
President Joe Biden announced a new plan on Tuesday that will fast track a path to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of foreign nationals who’ve been living in the country illegally for more than 10 years and married a U.S. citizen. He also expanded protections for DACA recipients, according to several reports.

We all know Fox News is somewhere off the table on the right, while MSNBC leans left. (Even so, I certainly trust MSNBC more than Fox.)

What many of us may not know is where our other information sources fall, and how trustworthy they are. These examples show that it helps to be informed about information.
