Lexington, KY – Gathering for Democracy, a local progressive group, has invited Andy Barr to answer constituents’ questions at a town hall in Lexington. He has so far declined the invitation.

Hoping he will change his mind, they will go ahead with an “empty chair” town hall, moderated by Steve Kay (former Vice Mayor of Lexington). It will be held on Saturday, March 22nd, at 10:00 am, at the Kentucky Theater, 214 E. Main Street in Lexington. The event is free and open to the public.

A chair and microphone will be ready for Andy Barr, should he choose to come address constituents’ concerns about issues including cuts to Medicaid and Medicare, the firing of federal workers, access to citizens’ data, and more.

While Barr may not show up, members of Lexington activist group Peaceful Bluegrass Resistance plan to. They will rally on the sidewalk across the street from the Kentucky Theater from 9:00-10:00 am that day to call attention to Barr’s lack of responsiveness in the face of widespread public opposition to the Trump/Musk agenda.

PBR, founded last month to raise the alarm about the dangers of the Trump/Musk administration. is growing rapidly, attracting more than 1,200 members in only five weeks. The group holds three regular weekly protests at some of Lexington’s busiest intersections, plus special events, including an upcoming Ukraine solidarity walk on Monday, March 24th at 11:00 am starting from Courthouse Plaza in Lexington.

Says PBR founder Craig Blair, “Andy Barr is complicit with the Trump/Musk agenda that is weakening our government’s most critical institutions. We want him to know that his constituents oppose the reckless destruction of the federal workforce, the recent attacks on the judiciary, and the rampant conflicts of interest in this administration, such as voiding the FAA’s contract with Verizon in favor of Starlink. Our government should not be used as a cash machine for Elon Musk and Donald Trump.”

Peaceful Bluegrass Resistance’s three regular weekly protests are:

  • Mondays 7:30-9:30 am near Mitch McConnell’s office at the intersection of Harrodsburg and New Circle Roads;
  • Thursdays 4:00-6:00 pm at the intersection of Nicholasville and Reynolds Roads; and
  • Saturdays 1:00-3:00 pm at the intersection of Sir Barton Way and Man o’War.

Peaceful Bluegrass Resistance was founded in Lexington, KY in February 2025 to organize public protests against the Trump/Musk administration and its unconstitutional dismantling of our government and federal workforce.
